I. ELIGIBILITY
A) Player
1) High school or college basketball players are ineligible for play in the NBBA.
2) All players must be at least 18 years of age. Exceptions to this rule may be made on an individual basis.
3) A team using an illegal player will forfeit the game(s) in which he played.
4) Players must participate in a minimum of 3 games and make at least one three point basket for every game they play in order to have the entry fee waived for the three point shooting contest at the end of the year.
B) Team
1) Must have matching colored jerseys with numbers on at least the back.
2) The season roster is limited to 7 players.
3) Rosters will be filled via a DRAFT held prior to the first regular season game.
4) A player must play in at least 3 games to be eligible for the playoffs. Exceptions may be approved by the NBBA Board.
C) NBBA Board

II. RULES
A) All games will be played according to New York State High School Rules with the following exceptions:
1) Players can enter the lane upon release of a free throw with the exception of the shooter who must wait until the ball hits the rim.
2) NO DUNKING!!! We should not be promoting showmanship and in-your-face basketball.
3) Games will consist of two (2) twenty minute halves. This will be a running clock except for the last two minutes of EACH half for dead ball situations.
4) Overtime periods will be 3 minutes long with the clock stopping in the last minute for dead ball situations.
5) A 5 minute break between halves will be allowed.
6) Each team will be allowed 2 time-outs each half, but they cannot be accumulated. A team will be granted one time-out for each overtime period.
7) A forfeit game will be declared by the referee if a team has less than 4 men to start a game. In the event that both teams appear with less than 4 men, each team will be charged with a loss.
8) In the event a team begins a game with either 4 or 5 players and no additional players come later, a player receiving his 5th personal foul will be allowed to continue to play, but will be assessed a technical for each additional foul up to a maximum of 8.
9) The games are scheduled to start at 1:00, 2:15, 3:30, 4:30 and 5:45pm, except where noted otherwise in the schedule. If a previous game runs over in time, teams will be granted 10 minutes for warm-ups and 10 minutes for pep talks.
B) In the event that a judgment is necessary, because of rule interpretation, the officials may be questioned with the following requirements:
1) Team questioning the rule must call time-out.
2) Only the team captain may talk with the official concerning the rule interpretation.
III. PLAYER CONDUCT/PERSONAL TESTIMONY
A) Team captains are responsible for their players' conduct.
B) The authority to control the game and all its elements including spectators rests with the referees with assistance from the NBBA Board members.
C) The judgment on all sportsmanship violations is in the hands of the referees assigned to the game.
1) Flagrant violations such as unnecessary roughness, vulgar language, racial, ethnic or sexual comments, orblasphemy (i.e., taking God’s name in vain) will be penalized by immediate ejection and an automatic two game suspension. Further disciplinary action may also be taken by the NBBA Board
2) For violations considered not to be flagrant by the referee, a warning will be issued. Any subsequent unsportsmanlike violations will result in ejection, an automatic two game suspension and possible further action by the Board.
3) Any fighting or fist swinging will result in an automatic one year suspension.
4) Any player who physically threatens an official before, during or after a game will be suspended for one year.
5) The NBBA Board shall have the power to decide on suspensions for all unsportsmanlike acts not specifically identified above.
6) A team is allowed 3 technical fouls/game, the third one resulting in forfeiture of the game. A second offense by the same team in a given season will result in the dismissal of said team from the league.
IV. REFEREES
A) Assignments for the games will be made by Mike Altobelli (429-5502), utilizing certified referees from the Board 60 Referees Association.
B) Referees are to assume jurisdiction at game time.
V. POSTPONEMENTS
Cancellations/postponements may occur if/when severe weather conditions dictate such action. The NBBA Board will decide by 10:00 am of a game day if a cancellation is in order. They will call each team captain to inform him of their decision. It is the team captain's responsibility to inform his teammates of the postponement. The NBBA Board will likewise inform the officials assigned to that day's games of their decision.
VI. VISITORS/SPECTATORS
A) No food, beverages or smoking is allowed in the gym.
B) No one is allowed on the stage. The bleachers will be used for seating in the gym.
C) All children under the age of 10 are to be supervised by an adult. We cannot afford to have them running around the facility unsupervised.
D) Any damage incurred to Northstar Christian Academy (NCA) will be the responsibility of ...
1) the individual(s) who caused it or
2) if unable to determine, the league members will share the burden equally.
